LEARNING TO WORK IN THE
HORSERACING INDUSTRY
Horses are, famously, predictable in their unpredictability. Working with them requires a unique skill set. Through our Approved Centres, we offer a range of qualifications that help people enter, and progress their careers in, the racing, thoroughbred breeding and farriery industries. These qualifications are accredited by the government and approved by the industry.
The QCF has arrived!
The Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) is the Government’s new framework for recognising achievement through the award of credit for units and qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The qualifications are designed to be more flexible and to enable learners to achieve in smaller more manageable steps. The unit based structure makes it easier to design qualifications in response to employers’ and learners’ needs.
The new qualifications are called either Award, Certificate or Diploma. These terms show the size of the qualification. The difficulty is indicated by the level of the qualification. So you could have an Award at level 3 and a Diploma at Level 1. The new titling makes the qualifications easier for employers and learners to understand.
All of BHEST’s vocational qualifications have been redeveloped for accreditation onto the QCF. From 1st January 2011 onwards, anyone registering for qualifications will be registered on the new QCF qualifications.
There are also new QCF replacements for the old Assessor and Verifier Awards. The new Qualifications for Assessing and Assuring the Quality of Assessment can be found here.
The old qualifications have been withdrawn, however those candidates registered prior to January 2011 will continue on the programmes of study they have started.
