Royal Approval for Racing to School’s Beacon Project at Newmarket

20th March, 2017

Racing to School is thrilled to announce that HRH The Duchess of Cornwall will be meeting with Newmarket Academy pupils on Wednesday March 22nd to learn about the progress of the charity’s Godolphin-backed Beacon Programme.

As part of a wider visit to the town, which includes the unveiling of a statue of King Charles II, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall will be given a tour of the Newmarket Academy within which she will meet some Year 9 students who will be preparing marketing plans in support of the Newmarket Open Weekend event.
This activity is one of many during the first of five years of this partnership between the charity, the Newmarket Academy and Godolphin. The Beacon Programme engages all year groups at the school and has already been well supported by a range of businesses across the town.
“We have been very grateful to the school staff and those across the sport who have already volunteered their time and expertise to allow Racing to School to deliver a creative programme aimed at benefiting all Academy pupils,” said Racing to School’s Chief Executive John Blake.
The Beacon partnership aims to increase employment skills and signpost opportunities to the students within the local horseracing and breeding industry.
Hugh Anderson, managing director Godolphin said: “Godolphin could not be more delighted with the progress of the Newmarket Academy Godolphin Beacon Project, which is largely down to the excellent work of the Academy and Racing to School.”
