Children from Ysgol Sant Dunawd  got a wonderful surprise on top of the excitement of their Racing to School activity day at Bangor on Dee Racecourse earlier this week.  Thanks to Jeannie Chantler and the team at Bangor on Dee Racecourse, Carrie Ford, Racing to School’s Regional Education Lead (North) and a group of pupils from Ysgol Sant Dunawd were given unique access to behind the scenes areas of the Bangor on Dee Racecourse.

Carrie and the children explored how Maths is vital for real life situations by learning about all the different weights and measures used in the Jockeys’ Weighing Room.   As the children were intent on listening to Carrie and filling out their activity books, none other than horseracing legend A P McCoy stepped into the Weighing Room.    He generously spared time for a photograph and a quick chat with the children from Ysgol Sant Dunawd (pictured) after his race, and in doing so he made the children’s Racing to School experience something to share memories about with their fellow pupils, families and friends for years to come.

BHEST’s special thanks go out to A P McCoy for his kindness and support and for enriching the Racing to School pupils’ day at Bangor on Dee Racecourse.
